Oats have been used medicinally as it is a very nutritious and nourishing food which is particularly good for the nervous system. Oats also helps reduce cholesterol levels, and are soothing in the intestinal tract, due to its good emollient properties.
Oats can also be used as a tonic both to the heart, thymus gland, and to the nerves. It is rich in silica, known to help renew skin, nails, hair, bones and connective tissues. Also rich in manganese, iron, and zinc.
Green oats have been found to useful in reducing cravings for tobacco smoke, so can help in the treatment programme of withdrawal from smoking.
Oats have been to treat depression, nervous exhaustion, panic attacks, dibility following illness, menopausal symptoms, shingles, herpes and in the treatment for hyper-active children. It is also used in its capacity as a natural aphrodisiac and strengthening agent in both men and women.
Damiana is used as a tonic and restorative herb for the nervous system, stimulating muscular contractions of the intestinal tract and the abdominal area. It also facilitates the transport of oxygen and blood to the genital area and so is useful to treat conditions of impotence and premature ejaculation.
It is also considered to be an aphrodisiac, sexual and hormonal remedy, while increasing energy, and has been used in that capacity for many years especially in countries of central America in particular Mexico.
Other uses have been in the treatment of asthma, urinary tract infections, depression, menstrual problems, and general tonic to increase energy. Damiana also appears to reduce blood sugar levels.
Peppermint is an herb often used as a relaxant. It relaxes the body to enable the release of digestive gases, and it calms the nerves of the stomach, and improves the flow of bile which the body then uses, to digest fat, so is a good tonic for those with a low appetite.
Peppermints main active compound is menthol, which is an effective decongestant. Menthol thins mucous, and helps break up phlegm, providing relief for nasal congestion, sinusitis, asthma, bronchitis, coughs and colds.
It is often used in the treatment of headaches, skin irritations, anxiety associated with depression, nausea, diarrhoea, menstrual cramps and flatulence, and aids motion sickness.
Siberian Ginseng is a herb of much focus and study in countries of Eastern Europe, in particular Russia.
Siberian ginsengs main active ingredient is called eleutherosides, which are thought to increase stamina and stimulate the immune system. It is also a rich source of B3 (Niacin), and the minerals Zinc and Magnesium.
The main uses are for its ability to restore vigour, and enhancing overall health and longevity through its antioxidant activity. It stimulates a healthy appetite, and increase memory functioning. Considered to be an adaptogen, so helps the body to adapt to different and often stressful situations, and strengthens the adrenal and reproductive glands as well.
It has long been used in folk medicine of the Eastern European countries for increasing the male reproductive capacity and fertility in particular, as it stimulates sexual function.
Studies have shown it to have an effect on the herpes simplex type 2 viruses, reducing the severity and frequency of attacks.
Also works aiding the nervous system to relax (nervine), lowers cholesterol, has mild anti-inflammatory properties, and works as a tonic to the immune system.

Nowadays it is more popularly used for bodybuilding, as an aid to building muscle through increased testosterone levels. Studies on this were inconclusive but it is still being used with mixed results.
It is thought to help release, and possibly raise the production of the luteinizing hormone(LH), which is a hormone made in the brain which is important for the release of an egg from the ovary during the menstrual cycle, in females, and in making the hormones testosterone and estrogen. So then it is thought an increase in testosterone, equals improved sexual performance and more muscle growth.
It is also thought to aid in the release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), which is made by the pituitary gland and is used in reproduction and in making estrogen and sperm.
Nettle is an herb that acts as a diuretic, an expectorant, improving mucous conditions of the lungs, and for its beneficial effects for hay fever and other allergic conditions. It is also used in the treatments of anaemia, mal -absorption syndrome, for improving goitre, prostate enlargement, arthritis and rheumatism. Nettle displays anti-inflammatory properties and enhances responses of the immune system.
A study in Hungary, by Dr Robert Frankt of Budapest University, found there was an increase in sexual vitality and energy in men, when using a combination of nettle and oats.

Fenugreek is also a moderately effective galactagogue (promotes secretion of milk in lactating mothers). Some lactation consultants recommend mothers ingest fenugreek in quantities until their skin exudes a smell similar to that of maple syrup. Fenugreek is often used in the food industry as artificial maple syrup flavouring.
Fenugreek is a good source of protein, and the seeds contain hormone precursors that replenish hair growth, so has benefits in hair loss, balding and thinning of hair. It contains lecithin, which is a natural emollient known to strengthen and moisturise hair.
