The Benefits of Evening Primrose & Flaxseed Oils
Even though it is recognized that two much fat is bad for you, the body still requires healthy fats and oils to function. The problem that most people face in today's society is that they are getting to much of the wrong types of fats in their diet and denying their bodies those essential fats, oils and nutrients. The human body can not function properly without two polyunsaturated fats, lineleic and alpha-linoleic acid which are fatty acids found in flaxseed oil.
What is good and bad fat?
Engineered (trans fat) and animals fats (saturated) are bad fats. Whilst in moderation trans and saturated fats may not harm you, the excessive use of such fats can lead to any number of illnesses. Bad fats clog your arteries and increase your risks for chronic disease like cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Many people are getting the wrong kinds of fats in their diet and are lacking in healthy fats. Besides being an energy source, healthy fats and oils are nutrients used in the production of cell membranes, as well as in several hormone-like compounds called eicosanoids. These compounds are good for regulating the blood pressure, heart rate, blood vessels, blood clotting and the nervous system.
In addition, dietary fat carries fat-soluble vitamins - vitamins A, D, E and K - from your food into your body. Fat also helps maintain healthy hair and skin, protects vital organs, keeps your body insulated, and provides a sense of fullness after meals (satiety).
What is Evening Primrose Oil?
Evening primrose oil is extracted from the evening primrose plant, a wildflower found in North America, Europe, parts of Asia and New Zealand. The Evening primrose seeds bear the special fatty oil that is used in healing today.
Evening Primrose Oil is especially helpful for women as it is a rich natural source of Omega-6 essential fatty acids, Gamma-linolenic Acid(GLA) and Linoleic Acid (LA). GLA is essential for production of prostaglandins, hormone-like substances, which regulate many important body functions including cholesterol levels, joint health, circulation and skin conditions.
What is Flaxseed?
Flaxseed comes from the flax plant which has been grown since the beginnings of civilization, and people all over the world have celebrated its usefulness throughout the ages.
Flaxseed oil is rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an essential fatty acid that maybe beneficial to those suffering from various forms of heart conditions. ALA is part of a group of substances called Omega-3 fatty acids.
The proper ratio of 1:2 (Omega 3 fatty acids to Omega 6 fatty acids) is essential to good health. Flaxseed oil is excellent for the heart because it is the richest source of alpha-linolenic acid.
